How to Choose a Suitable Adjustable Standing Desk?

Our workplace environment has undergone drastic changes in recent years. Open workspaces and inflatable balls used instead of chairs have become part of the office decor nowadays. Among such unique novelties, standing desks are becoming widely popular not just for their style and function but also for the number of health advantages they provide.

The Basics of Ergonomics

First step in picking a desk: Make sure it's the right height. Whether you're sitting or standing, when you're typing your forearms should be parallel to the ground, your elbows at around a 90-degree angle, and your feet flat on the floor. When you're sitting, your hips and knees should also be at an optimum 90-degree angle.

Experts stress that if you're even a little taller or shorter than average, you shouldn't assume that all standing desks will accommodate you. So grab a tape measure and a friend to measure from the floor to the bottom of your bent elbow while standing and sitting. That's how high above the floor the keyboard should be, in both its raised and lowered positions. Also measure your seated and standing eye level, which is where your monitor should be placed, so you can look forward at your screen, not up or down.

In general, a wider the range of adjustment is almost always better; the devices tend to be most stable when they're not at their max height.

Plan to stand on a mat in supportive shoes to protect your joints, especially if you'll be standing on a concrete or tile floor. Finally, if you have lots of equipment with power cords, Ethernet cables, and other wires, think about how you'll hook those up as you're shopping. For instance, you may need to invest in longer cords, or decide to get a wireless, rather than wired, keyboard.

At happyard we offer a wide range of standing desks, but going back to basics, if it is not a large desk you need, but covers the basics our Electric Standing Desk, 47 x 23 Inches suits entirely. You can adjust the height by the up/down button, plus 4 memory buttons make it quick and precise to adjust to your intended comfortable height.

The desktop can easily accommodate your two monitors or even more, with two cable management holes on the desktop to manage your electronic device wires. You can even find them in different colours such as black or walnut.

Standing Desk Converters

If you're not interested in replacing your current desk, you can place a converter on top that will give you the option of sitting and standing. You can save a lot of money with this option, or spend almost what you would spend on a new standing desk.

Some of the options available on the market are some variation of a table that you put on top of your desk. However our Standing Desk Converter offers enough space for two monitors and one laptop. The two-tier design promised space for your keyboard and mouse. If you want to stand all the time, these options will work, but experts recommend alternating sitting and standing throughout your day. From the minimum height 5'' to the maximum height 19'',you can adjust the height of your computer workstation as you sit or stand and is easy to lift with less efforts by a press of the lifting button.

The benefits of a converter are that they're often less expensive and they're easier to install (Just unpack your new desk, attach the detachable keyboard tray with 12 screws, and your sit-stand desk is ready to go in minutes). Also designed in different colours to suit all workplaces.

Electric Standing Desks

An electric standing desk is the most comprehensive option. Of course, you can use an upside-down laundry basket as a quick fix, get a desk converter at a lower price point, or even look into a manually adjustable desk, but an electric desk will give you the best ease of use overall.

Material quality will impact how long a desk will last. For an electric standing desk, also consider the motor components; a dual-motor will power more up-and-down action over its lifespan, plus the increase to speed of height adjustability.

Often overlooked is the noise level. It’s a seemingly small thing that can be frustrating over time, so look for something below at least 60 dB. Under 40 dB is considered quiet. The HappYard adjustable height of the stand desk ranges from 28 1/5'' to 43 1/10'', with noise less than 60dB.

Together with the electronic button and height memory, you’ll find more stability in our frames that are designed in square columns, reinforced material, and wider feet. Frame material and overall weight can also be a factor. In particular, if looking out for stability when positioned in standing range. A 3-stage frame will be your best bet if you’re above average height.

The weight capacity of your desk must be more than all the stuff you plan on putting on top, so double check the weights of your monitor and accessories. Most basic standing desks easily handle over 100 lb, while Happyard handles over 170lb!

All our electronic desks are designed from the individual who only needs a space for his desktop, to those who require larger space either for their computers or working devices, you name it and Happyard makes it possible.

Once you’ve got your standing desk, remember to use it in a way that’s comfortable for you. Get your setup right, build up to standing for longer periods over time, and alternate sitting and standing throughout the day!
